When I really should be working

I should really be working as is the case of most of the times I am blogging. Probably this is true for most bloggers out there except for the few who are making money with it or using it as a method to publish a book. I am not one of those select few, but I will blog anyways.
So this whole no internet thing at my house is pretty lame. I have been watching more movies and staying up just as late as usual, but I am not sure how that is still happening without those hours of wasting time surfing the internet.
My dad is visiting Seattle this weekend and he will probably take the two cats with him. This will be somewhat sad because they do provide some relaxing qualities. They are nice to pet for a couple minutes late at night when I am thinking about homework. They also annoy the heck out of me in the morning when they start meowing while I am tying to get every last minute of sleep before I wake up. I won’t miss that. I think they will be happier on the island because they will get to spend more time outdoors without the worry of cars and strangers.
I have been thinking about my choice to work at Avanade lately and even my choice to stay in school longer. Mostly because my brother has a chance to interview and get a nice raise in salary. This is all without finishing school. I have to keep telling myself that I have had fun in school and that raises will come and this while college thing will pay off in the end. I just have to be patient. I am still happy for him though. I always knew he was smart and hardworking. This just goes to show some of the people that have doubted me as I have said this before that it is true.
I found an article through BlueDot about a Chinese journalist arrested because of information provided to the Chinese government from Yahoo!. Amnesty International has a form on their website that will send an email to founders of Yahoo! telling them you are displeased with what they are doing. Would they share this information with China? Would it keep me from getting into China? That would be lame.
Well I should start on my homework for Vision. Pretty cool stuff about face recognition.
Like you said, at least your kitties will be in a more open space where they can go outside.

1) i was on google video looking for footage of a 7year old pianist named Marc Yu on the Ellen Degeneres talk show. I decided randomly to see what dancers used googlevideo for their clips, as many heads have flocked to youtube. so i found your video, which is really intriguing because I didn’t know what the scene was in China, let alone Beijing, where I just visited last March (on a tour with family, so no nightlife for me
!) Maybe I can meet your friends since they know whatsup 
maybe. One of the coolest things would be to make dance contacts over there. Anyway. Good job putting up the clip, its not surprising that all the bboys look the same. I mean that hip hop has permeated every country with roughly the same aesthetic.
2) This blog about a Chinese journalist is funny because today I just caught this long article on Washington Post (from Feb) about a journalist who used the net to challenge the government and the paper he worked for. the memo he posted (15000 words!) was propagated through chinese blogs and portals, and many offland sites very quickly before the Municipal Information authority decided to order its deletion (with no justification either!)
if anything the article is interesting enough, with very good research. what’s not surprising is how many journalists get screwed for ‘challenging the party line.’ I’m sure these two are but a small % of censorship and reprimanding. With so much focus on Chinese internet censorship and people fighting the firewall, a revolution is going to happen.. hopefully. I’ll be up on that one.

The scene is China is pretty developed, but nothing near the states. Mostly because of the developed bboy scene in Korea. I was told that a lot of bboys from Korea head to Beijing to teach, so the Beijing scene is influenced by them, but I am sure they have influence from other places as well.
There are also some bgirls over there too. I was really pumped to see that. I guess more artistic trades don’t suffer from more traditional views as these kids are young and are not taking traditional paths in life (college or work).
I actually blogged the whole time I was in China. I have a photo gallery from my trip as well, but it is down because of issues with my phone company. I will let you know when it is back up as soon as possible. As for the blog you can check out my archives from September 2004 to January 2005.
In short though, China is a great country. There is so much going on economically, culturally and in just about every other aspect. Beijing is a great place to stay because it still has the Chinese feel, but is large enough, so there are lots of entertainment opportunities. You should definitely head back because Beijingers are so welcoming.
I gotta run, but I will drop you some contacts later. Unfortunately most are back in the states or have moved to other cities within China already, but I am sure they can lead you in the right direction. Also, try meetup.com
