Cutting Edge

Cutting Edge

Had another good trip up to Squamish this weekend. The weather held out and we got two good days of bouldering in. It was pretty chill and we ended up running into lots of people from Stone Gardens, so it felt like a day at the gym.

179u.net

Some of my photos of the Three Rivers Gorge Dam got picked up on a Chinese site 179u.net. It looks like an auto-generated page that searches blogs and photo sites for materials.

Thats probably the same way Vu on Choir Boys Life got on taggy.jp.

Random Conversation in a Shuttle

Took a shuttle back to my building after lunch today. I had to tell my friend about it. Here is how it went:

‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:00 PM]:
Shuttle driver had some crazy stories.
‎‎Jesse Robbins (MAQ Software)‎‎ [1:00 PM]:
like what?
‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:00 PM]:
Stories about building missles for cold war
‎‎Jesse Robbins (MAQ Software)‎‎ [1:00 PM]:
wtf?
kind of a random story, who initiated that"
‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:01 PM]:
Here is the conversation:
as we are pulling around the back of building
driver says, wish they would chop down the old firs, they are dead
me, it's hard to chop down trees around here
driver, yeah, you would write an evironmental impact statement
driver continues, i had to do that when i was down in the southwest
we were designing missle trucks that had to withstand collisions with cactuses
we spent 3 months writing environmental impact statements
he continued to talk about the hundreds of missles they had on all the trucks, the nuclear subs and the underground trains with missles.
‎‎Jesse Robbins (MAQ Software)‎‎ [1:03 PM]:
wait...missle trucks that could withstand collisions with cacti?
‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:03 PM]:
yeah
I am guessing, so if they needed to shoot missles at Russia these things could make a bee-line to the firing location as fast as possible
‎‎Jesse Robbins (MAQ Software)‎‎ [1:04 PM]:
ah...but from where?
‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:04 PM]:
the southwest, los alamos
‎‎Jesse Robbins (MAQ Software)‎‎ [1:04 PM]:
because places with Cacti and Russia are kinda far
that's one long ass range missle
‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:05 PM]:
yeah, I wanted to make a smart ass comment about the army being ready for the war in russia that would take place in the desert.
During the ride, the driver picked up one of the little microsoft notebooks and said, I got it all right here in my autobiography.
‎‎Jesse Robbins (MAQ Software)‎‎ [1:06 PM]:
huh?
he's off his rocker
or the next best seller
‎‎Jon Keto (Avanade)‎‎ [1:06 PM]:
He is writing about the time before the second world war when everyone was united in support of the war
kids would take aluminum from gum wrappers and cigarette packages and recycle with their moms pots and pans.
Left over fat would be taken to the grocery store and turned into nitoglycerin
He said a store in west seattle had some many coming with fat they had to put up a sign to turn them away
it said "Women, don't bring your fat cans in here"
