Spring Break 再见

Well, that was it. Not as spectacular as I thought it would be. No big bangs or flashing lights and it kind sputtered in the beginning, but the end of my spring break was fun.

I think the biggest news is that my brother bought a car! He really likes it a lot and I think it is cool.

....

I wanted to type more until I read this. This kid was younger than me and was killed in the shooting on capitol hill. Damn, this world really sucks sometimes.

Don't take things for granted.

I will write more later. I want to sleep now, so I can forget.

Random Thought on Cloning

It should be legalized, so that we can answer the question of who would win in a fight, you or your clone.

A Old Conversation

In high school my brother, Kagan and I would spend a lot of time with a good friend Ben Peterson. After high school he want to Carleton College and we did not see much of him. Last summer he came back to get married, so we had a chance to hang out with and go crabbing. Here is a conversation Kagan had with his mom before we left.

Ben's Mom: (to Kagan) Nice shoes.
Kagan: I know.
Ben's Mom: It is going to be a problem if they get wet?
Kagan: Nope. They are already blue.

Haha! That had me rolling on the floor. Classic Kagan.

My Last Spring Break

So this is my last spring break of my undergraduate college career. You might suspect I would have some crazy girls gone wild trip planned to Cabo or Daytona Beach, but then you wouldn't really know me. I don't have much planned that is exciting to talk about. I might pick up some programming books to read in my spare time, but mostly I will probably be rock climbing and cleaning up the house.

So, as you guys might have realized, I finally got an internet connection again. In the middle of finals week we had it installed with cable tv. I felt alive and had the immediate urge to start wasting time. Fortunately I managed to hold back my urges and study for my last two finals the next day. At this point I think they went ok, but I have not seen my grades, so that feeling might change if my gpa takes a hit. The cable tv has been nice though. I have been taking advantage of the DVR, a digital video recorder, that lets me tape any shows live or in the future. That has helped me keep with the NCAA tournament and the UW Huskies wins. Lets hope they can keep it up.

With the internet going down and coming back up with another ISP I no longer have a photo gallery. I am going to be working on finding a solution to that. It might have to be creating a new one on some new space I will have to buy. Does any have any tips for a cheap hosting place that will give me 10-50 gigabytes of space?

Today was a quasi-sad day as my dad came back down from San Juan Island to take the cats with him. On one hand it is a nice relief to not have to worry about the one cat we wanted to stay inside because he would always wine about going out and the other who we wanted to go outside, but would stay inside and vomit on things. In the long run I think it will be better since they will get to spend more time outside without worrying about cars and people. Maybe they can start climbing trees more often.

I only have about 4 months until I start working. I am pretty excited about it, but I have some preparation to do and even before I start working I will need to do some major vacationing. I am thinking about another trip to China, but this time Sandra and I are going to try and go together. We have made a loose itinerary, but it might change ... especially since Sandra does not know whether she can go. In either case I will probably buy a digital SLR with my tax return before too long, so I can take some nice photos while I am / we are traveling. Maybe an iSight would be a good idea too?

Sandra just had her birthday last week. The big celebration did not happen until this weekend though. A large group of us had dinner downtown and a trendy and swank asian, but you can't tell what type of asian it is, restaurant. This was followed by a pit stop at a sports bar before they closed. Then someone did enough persuading to get us all to go to Down Under, a club on 1st avenue. The place was okay, wait, I am lying, it was wack. The music was not good to dance to, the place did not have a lot of people and the DJ was horrible. Not too mention, when we were outside of the club some huge ddue started pounding on a girl's face. That is when all the guys got the girls to do an about face and head to their cars. When we were heading back to Vince's car we saw the group of people who were outside of the club about a block away from it still fighting. It is not that I don't like to go out and dance, wait, I don't really like it at all, but I especially don't like the the people there, the smell you have when you get home, the fights and the sleezeballs.

Well, now that I have internet, feel free to contact, comment or whatever. Also, contact me if you are interested in a new social bookmarking service. Think del.icio.us, but way cooler. Think ma.gnolia.com, but from Seattle, think some others, but without stupid unecessary features ... just think fun to use.

When I really should be working

I should really be working as is the case of most of the times I am blogging. Probably this is true for most bloggers out there except for the few who are making money with it or using it as a method to publish a book. I am not one of those select few, but I will blog anyways.

So this whole no internet thing at my house is pretty lame. I have been watching more movies and staying up just as late as usual, but I am not sure how that is still happening without those hours of wasting time surfing the internet.

My dad is visiting Seattle this weekend and he will probably take the two cats with him. This will be somewhat sad because they do provide some relaxing qualities. They are nice to pet for a couple minutes late at night when I am thinking about homework. They also annoy the heck out of me in the morning when they start meowing while I am tying to get every last minute of sleep before I wake up. I won't miss that. I think they will be happier on the island because they will get to spend more time outdoors without the worry of cars and strangers.

I have been thinking about my choice to work at Avanade lately and even my choice to stay in school longer. Mostly because my brother has a chance to interview and get a nice raise in salary. This is all without finishing school. I have to keep telling myself that I have had fun in school and that raises will come and this while college thing will pay off in the end. I just have to be patient. I am still happy for him though. I always knew he was smart and hardworking. This just goes to show some of the people that have doubted me as I have said this before that it is true.

I found an article through BlueDot about a Chinese journalist arrested because of information provided to the Chinese government from Yahoo!. Amnesty International has a form on their website that will send an email to founders of Yahoo! telling them you are displeased with what they are doing. Would they share this information with China? Would it keep me from getting into China? That would be lame.

Well I should start on my homework for Vision. Pretty cool stuff about face recognition.

Stupid Telephone Company

So I called the phone company and some guy named Jose took my request to disconnect my home phone line. I am not sure what role he played in this whole thing, but the result the next day was my DSL didn't work. Here is chronological list of that days events.

10:30 am: wake up shower, eat.
11:00 am: try to check busview to see where my bus is. Internet doesn't work, so I recycle the router.
11:03 am: Internet still doesn't work. Try recycling the router again.
11:05 am: Internet still doesn't work. Oh well, give up, go to the bus stop.

12:30 pm: Go to geography class.
2:30 pm: Chat with classmate while heading to OS. He says that everything is fair and you don't owe girls anything before the ring is on your finger.
~5:00 pm: Get home and get a call from my brother, he asks "Is the Internet down?". I reply, "Yeah". Then he says "Qwest probably disconnected it".
5:30 pm: I call my ISP and as soon as I get on the line I tell him that the day before I asked my phone company to disconnect my home phone and that they also disconnected my DSL. His response "oh shit!".

So, he says they will work on it. I called Qwest and told them how retarted they are. He tells me the people who handled it were retarded too and that they did not follow standard protocol. They can't do much about it. I complain some more and suggest that they get smarter support staff. Anyways, I don't have internet at home now.

My new idea for a project is to do a photo documentary and journal about bouldering in China. Then I want to see some of the stuff to a climbing magazine. I think that will be cool since there is a not a great deal or information readily available about bouldering in China besides indoor gyms in Beijing and top roping at Yangshuo. China is a huge country, there has got to be more places than that. Not sure how the whole thing will work out. I definitely going to get a digital SLR before I head to China though.

I went to the climbing gym last night. I had a fun time, but I feel like I have lost some strength since I start toproping, but I think my endurance is better. I guess that is good, but I can't do harder grades now, which is somewhat disappointing. In the end I climb for the fun of it and the social aspect, so not getting that harder grade is not too bad ... I guess.
